"What are you afraid of?" a project by Alice Padovani - Billboard art in London (2023 - 2024)
Alice Padovani is an extraordinary interpreter of our times, capable of grasping and transforming those signals that indicate profound changes and returning them to us with the simplicity of a comprehensible language, combining word with gesture and material, so that 'her' art becomes 'ours' through ritual.
After two years of pandemic and an international crisis, Alice Padovani asks herself and all of us: "What are you afraid of?". A few characters in black on a white billboard that have the power to awaken consciences from their collective torpor. A question that strikes suddenly, almost mystically, and forces us to look inwards.
Alice Padovani first presented "What are you afraid of" in early 2022 with Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia, as a pilot project for DRIS - Co-creating Intercultural Societies: A Focus on Racism and Discrimination, supported by Europa Creativa aiming at promoting understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, respect and exchange between different cultures to build intercultural dialogue. The promoters of the project are Interarts Foundation (Spagna), ECCOM (European Centre for Cultural Organization and Management - Italia) and ITZ (Interkulturelles Theaterzentrum - Germania) and it is co-funded by the Regione Emilia Romagna-Servizio Patrimonio culturale and Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali (Italian Heritage Office).
