WE RESTART is a Registered Charity imagined and founded in early 2021, in the midst of COVID-19 global pandemic, when the profound necessity to recover conjured up how universal and timeless is the need and the quest for a restart.
WE RESTART’s mission is to produce artistic projects (including visual art, performing and video art, video and editorial projects) which focus on themes of, or where art functions as an act/tool of personal or collective resilience, recovery and restart or reconstruction of identity.
WE RESTART advocates the role of women as beacons and active forces for restart processes, the healing power of narrative, the necessity for art to be democratic, directly experienced, a bridge between cultures and the “self” and the “other”.

Chiara Canal has a profound passion for the arts, in all its possible forms. This has lead her to develop in the past 20 years a strong and extensive expertise both in the performing and visual arts, ranging from theatre administration, production and stage management to the exciting experience of founding and managing an art gallery specialised in contemporary art. Her academic background in social studies is at the base of her deep curiosity for human relations and WE RESTART embodies Chiara’s dream to improve and enrich people lives and communities through the power and impact of artistic projects and actions.
Cristina Cellini Antonini has an extensive strategic and operational experience gained within the Arts and Culture industry. With a proven track record in creating and overseeing large-scale events, festivals and art fairs internationally, she has leading edge in negotiating commercial partnerships and fundraising campaigns both for the private sector and for non-for-profits organisations. She is passionate about cultural placemaking and in developing Community Engagement programs. She has been appointed Artistic Director and juror for several International Art Organisations.
We have invited our A.R.I.A. Hub Artists in residency to join our advisory committee, enriching our organization with their invaluable perspectives and expertise. Their dual experience as both artists and individuals with lived experiences of displacement, asylum-seeking, or refugee status brings a unique depth of understanding to our work. Their insights and guidance enable us to continually refine and improve our programmes, ensuring they are not only culturally responsive but also genuinely effective in engaging and supporting more individuals in need. Through their contributions, we learn each day, shaping our initiatives to better meet the diverse needs of those we serve and fostering a more inclusive and impactful approach to our work.

Nazmeen Shahban is a junior studying English Education at New York University. She hopes to teach English literature to middle and high schoolers and impact them in the same ways her English teachers have impacted her! In the past, she has worked with elementary school children and volunteered to work with immigrant high schoolers in similar areas of English, math, technology, art, science, and more. Because of those experiences, she is so excited to be here at WE RESTART because she has seen art be a powerful tool for analyzing human nature and society. By emphasizing refugee and migrant artists' voices, she hopes to contribute to the building of a more empathetic and kind world. She looks forward to being part of this great community.
