OPEN CALL

Studio Residency

WE RESTART is a charity whose mission is to support artists-at-risk. Through the ARIA hub, a programme dedicated to Asylum seeker, Refugee and Immigrant Artists, we want to support displaced artists through a Studio Residency, access to adult education and mentoring.

The 6-month Studio Residency is open to 3/4 artists from all disciplines and at all levels of their career, from emerging to established. It provides a safe space filled with opportunities to develop their practice, build collaborations with communities, and facilitate the understanding of London’s Arts & Culture scene.

The Studio Residency includes

- A shared studio space available in Central London from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm, from January until June 2024;

- Shared Art Materials and resources;

- Art Therapy;

- Professional development: adult education and skills development;

- Job opportunities;

- Portfolio reviews, and mentoring activities;

- Networking events to meet and engage with other artists, curators, academics and researchers through organised presentations, studio visits, events and meals;

- Guided visits to museums, theatres, galleries, charities, artists’ studios;

Final exhibition/show during Refugee Week 2024;

How to apply

Our Open Call process is in two stages:

First stage: The Referral Form. This can be filled by yourself (SELF-REFERRAL FORM INDIVIDUALS), or you can ask an organisation to refer you (REFERRAL FORM ORGANISATIONS). Please note: The Referral Form for the Studio Residency Open Call must be submitted before the 20th of November 2023.

Second Stage: We will contact you and ask you to provide further information. We want to find out some information about you, your creative practice, and ideas for the residency. We want to hear about your skills, knowledge, and your experience as a displaced artist.

The deadline for the second stage is the 30thof November 2023. Selected artists will be informed of the decision on the 15thof December 2023. The Studio Residency will start on the 8th of January and will end in June with a final show during the Refugee Week.

FAQs

Do I have to be based in London?

You would need to make a commitment over the 6 months of the residency. Unfortunately, we cannot contribute to any living costs, including accommodation in central London, subsistence, and travel costs to and from your usual location and the studio. Residents can work in the shared studio all week.

Do I have to purchase my own materials and equipment for the residency?

We do have a small budget for residency materials and additional equipment, and we will do our best to support you during the studio residency.

I have a question that is not addressed in this guidance page?
